PLAY IDEAS FOR SPEECH THERAPY
1. Goodnight Frog
We LOVE an interactive book. Journey down to the pond to tell all of its critters, “Goodnight”. Use the attached “magic torch” to find frog's animal friends! Change it up by looking for additional animals or items in the scene. Great for working on "wh"- questions like, "Who is that?" as the light shines on the animals. Use the order of what you find in the pond to address sequencing goals.
This book is great for targeting articulation, sequencing, "wh" questions, descriptions, prepositions, rhyming, and following directions.
Use the communication board included in your cube for additional support.
2. Duck, Duck, Dance!
Do your dance! Roll 4 dice and decide your dance sequence. and hit the dance floor. Flip a lillypad to see who goes next and continue the dance party. This is an incredibly fun game that works on turn-taking, group participation, and we get to work in some movement. This is a great game for our wiggly students or center stage personalities.
Work on social-language through turn-taking and complimenting others performances. Work on sequencing and recall with the order of the actions.
Incorporate core words, such as “roll”, “go”, “put”, “dance”, and “turn” including action words like, “jump”, “clap”, and “fly” on the die.
Need to get more specific to target your goals? Print out and tape your target words onto the cubes to address more specific action words or artic sounds.
3. Calm Frog
Help! Our frog needs to find some zen. Use the Frog-themed calming strategy cards to have your student(s) find their favorite calming strategy.
This activity is great for problem solving in social scenarios, articulation, and following directions, & for students who may need a break or benefit from movement during sessions.
4. Let's Go Fishing
The Spark Innovations Gone Fishing cards are the perfect resource to target sequencing and story retell. Once students have sequenced the cards, have them name the characters and create their own story to narrate the sequence of events.
This sequencing set is also great for answering “wh” questions about the scenes and scenarios, targeting picture description, location and action words, and core words such as, “sit”, “stand”, “eat”, “water”, “fun”, “happy”, “hungry”, and more.
4. Hop to the Pond
Create a scene! Use the pond scene and figurines to create a pond scene. Students love to use mini figures to play. Use the scene and figures to create pond-themed play scenarios, conversations, and more.
This activity is great for creating organic language opportunities, pretend play scenarios, articulation, conversation, "wh" questions, and so much more!
