PLAY IDEAS FOR SPEECH THERAPY
1. Feed the Shark!
Use our Scoop and Splash Shark for endless fun! Name your shark to support artic goals and start the feeding frenzy! Practice listening skills and following directions by telling students which sea creature the shark wants to eat. Want an added challenge? Describe the items (something hot, the vegetable, the green fish). Need more student motivation? Add items to a small water table or bin to make your shark hunt down the items. Have students sequence and retell what their shark ate.
Use included PDF cards to reduce materials needed for these activities.
Great for targeting core words and action words like "in", "eat", "get", "help", "chomp", and "gobble".
2. Shark Tales
Who doesn't love a collaborative story-building activity for group sessions? Create and build stories utilizing our Jumbilee Stories cards featuring all the creatures in the sea. This activity is perfect for targeting mixed speech and language goals such as, grammar, sentence formulation and expansion, narrative language, metaphors, "wh"- questions, and more! Take turns drawing cards to find characters and expand on their adventures. Provide 3 choices to complete sentences. Follow up with "wh" questions to complete description tasks or draw attention to what other group members have contributed to the story (e.g. Who drew the_____?). This activity is great for collaborative and engaging story-building, story retell, and social skills.
3. Free the Sea Creatures!
HELP! The shark has lost its teeth! Help the sea creatures escape before the shark finds its teeth! Draw cards to rescue the fish or add the teeth. All teeth come with visuals targeting final consonant sounds and storage pages for each set. This activity is great for collaborative play, articulation targets, descriptions, and targeting core words like, "in", "out", "help", "jump", and "swim".
4. We're Going on a Shark Hunt
Use our Shark Grabber to help complete a shark hunt! Place your items or our printable target words throughout the room and have your students hunt them down! Use the shark grabber to scoop up the words or items while targeting prepositions, articulation targets, and "wh" questions. Exchange our printable targets with action words to incorporate some verbs and movement into sessions. Work on core words like, "go", "on", "in", "under", "get", "eat" and more.
