PLAY IDEAS FOR SPEECH THERAPY
1. Stamp it out!
Stamps are a very versatile tool. We love using these snowflake stamps to stamp out our articulation targets on our articulation sheets.
These snowflakes can be used to create winter wonderland scenes, which is great for targeting following directions, colors, and picture descriptions. It also allows students to create something beautiful to take home. Hooray for a carry-over activity!
Use this toy to work on core words like, "on", "push", "press", "more", "again" and so much more.
2. A Loud Winter's Nap
An interactive book that includes problem solving opportunities? Sign us up! Read this engaging story aloud and utilize our included language supports for: answering “wh” questions, sequencing the events of the story, and reviewing vocabulary & arctic words from the text.
This story is all about poor turtle trying to find a bed to sleep through winter. Discuss the types of beds he chooses & how they are problematic. This is great for students to target predictions, identifying and discussing turtle's emotions, and problem-solving.
A Loud Winter's Nap is perfect for group participation as it contains loads of onomatopoeias that are perfect for targeting common articulation sounds and getting students engaged.
This story has incredible scenes for picture descriptions & opportunities for talking about winter activities.
3. Snowballs!
These indoor snowballs are the gift that keeps on giving. They are great for attaching target articulation words, vocabulary words, action words, or a "wh" question. Set some ground rules for a safe game of toss and whoever catches the ball gets to repeat the target word, complete the action, or answer the question.
Alternatively, students can toss the balls at written prompts to complete the same tasks. Incorporate vocabulary, artic words, or "wh" questions related to A Loud Winter's Nap to keep on theme.
Add a layer of fun by having students stack the balls to create a formation, trace its outline, and each student can name and fill in the form of their creation. For an easier task, have students use the snowballs to create a snowman.
3. Pop it!
Kids love to send things flying and this snowman ball popper delivers. Students can aim their orange balls at target words, or to knock over stacks of the previously mentioned snowballs. This is also a great toy to use an an incentive or a sensory break during sessions. We love a motivational toy!
Great for targeting core words like, "go", "again", "pop", "get", "more", and "fly" and more!
